AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A West Texas psychiatrist faces up to 10 years in federal prison for health care fraud related to medical services never provided.

Dr. Robert Hadley Gross of San Angelo could also be required to repay more than $1.8 million.

Prosecutors in Amarillo on Tuesday announced Gross pleaded guilty to health care fraud related to a scheme involving Medicare and Medicaid.

Gross last fall was indicted on 52 counts of health care billing fraud mainly involving nursing home residents or patients who died, in cases since 2009. Investigators say Gross served clients mainly in San Angelo, Midland, Abilene and Brownwood.

Prosecutors say Gross, who pleaded guilty last week in Amarillo, was arrested last October and remains in custody pending sentencing.
