WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Council President Theo Gregory is announcing a bid for Wilmington mayor.

Gregory said Monday that he will run for mayor in 2016. He is the third candidate to announce a challenge to incumbent Dennis Williams in next year’s Democratic primary.

Williams is seeking a second term as mayor. Former council members Norman Griffiths and Kevin Kelley Sr. announced their campaigns earlier this month.

Gregory says he is challenging Williams to fill a leadership void. The attorney and former federal prosecutor was first elected to the council in 1984 and elected council president in 2012.
