MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (AP) - Mount Pleasant police say a woman is dead and her husband seriously injured after the couple was struck by a car as they tried to cross a street.

The Journal Times of Racine (https://bit.ly/1iJHdXf ) reports the crash was reported just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Mount Pleasant Police Sgt. Paul Maccari says the couple was crossing Washington Avenue when they were struck by a four-door Buick sedan.

The couple is in their late 60s to early 70s. Police say the wife died at the scene. The husband had head trauma and is in serious condition.

Police say the driver was “very cooperative and very distraught.”

Alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash. The names of the couple have not been released.
