PARKER CITY, Ind. (AP) - Eastern Indiana officials say a 16-car train that derailed near a high school closed a county road for several hours.

No injuries were reported in Wednesday afternoon’s derailment along a CSX rail line near Parker City, about 10 miles east of Muncie.

Randolph County Sheriff Ken Hendrickson says nine of the 16 cars were off the tracks and on their sides near a train crossing along Indiana 32. He says the seven other cars remained upright but were considered derailed.

Hendrickson says the derailed cars were empty coal cars. He says the cause of the derailment was not immediately known, but foul play isn’t suspected.

The derailment occurred near Monroe Central Jr-Sr. High School.
