CEDAR, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a body has been found in a lake in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula near where a swimmer was reported missing by boaters.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle and TV station WWTV report the body found Wednesday night in Lake Leelanau was identified as that of 56-year-old John Gleason of Lake Ann. The newspaper says he served as senior pastor at Inland Baptist Church in Interlochen.

Chris Sharp, a deacon at the church, says: “We love him. We miss him bad already.”

The search began after two men and two women went swimming from a boat off Kelenski Point near Cedar, about 10 miles northwest of Traverse City. The 20-foot boat drifted away and the group swam to retrieve it, but the Leelanau County sheriff’s department says the man disappeared.

This story has been corrected to show the boat was near Kelenski Point, not Zelenski Point.
