CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The Natrona County District Attorney’s Office has cleared a Casper police officer of wrongdoing in the death of a man who was shot while authorities served a search warrant at his home.

Prosecutor Michael Blonigen says Sgt. Daniel Dundas was justified in the fatal July 12 shooting of Christopher Benton.

Police officers had gone to Benton’s home to serve a search warrant based on drug and gun allegations against Benton.

According to a letter Blonigen sent to a state agent who investigated the case, Dundas was the first officer to enter the home. He says Dundas noticed Benton holding a gun and then fired multiple gunshots.

Dundas was placed on paid administrative leave during an investigation into the shooting. He returned to work last week.
