LAKEPORT, Calif. (AP) - Evacuation orders for 60 people remain in effect for a rural area of Lake County as crews rush to quell a wildfire burning through timber in steep terrain.

Cal Fire says the blaze reported Wednesday afternoon north of Clear Lake grew to about 450 acres by Thursday morning.

Residents of a wooded area within Mendocino National Forest were evacuated as flames moved close to residences. Crews had the fire 20 percent contained Thursday.

The blaze is about 30 miles north of where wildfires last month burned more than 70 homes.

Crews are still battling a massive wildfire burning for more than a month in the Sierra foothills east of Fresno. The 125-square-mile blaze is 25 percent contained.

Earlier this summer, a fire about 100 miles north of San Francisco burned more than 107 square miles before being fully contained in mid-August.
