CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Police used a DNA sample collected under an expanded law to charge a man with raping a hotel guest in 2014.

The Citizen of Laconia reports (https://bit.ly/1FkWAKz ) that Douglas Fisher is charged with rape, robbery and other charges. Police say he broke into a guest’s room at a lakeside resort in Laconia, tied her up and raped her.

A DNA sample collected from Fisher after a previous arrest was linked to a sample found at the resort.

In 2010, the state expanded its DNA collection to include all felonies, not just certain violent crimes. Fisher had pleaded guilty to a drug charge in June 2014.

Fisher is due in court Thursday for a plea and sentencing hearing. He has filed notice that he’ll plead guilty. He faces at least 18 years in prison.
