CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - The Medical Examiner’s Office says a woman whose remains were found in Chesapeake died of unspecified criminal violence, including decapitation and dismemberment.

The medical examiner also says Brianna Armstrong suffered post-mortem mutilation. The manner of killing is undetermined.

Multiple media outlets report that the medical examiner released an autopsy revealing details about Armstrong’s death on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Virginia Beach woman’s remains were discovered in several trash bags near a bike trail on May 31.

Her co-worker, 38-year-old Justin Cornell, is charged with second-degree murder in her death. Prosecutors say Cornell’s property was found inside the trash bags with Armstrong’s remains.

Armstong and Cornell worked as massage therapists at a day spa.

Cornell is being held at the Beach Correctional Center.

Armstrong’s husband reported her missing May 9.
