DETROIT (AP) - A new, independent arts space is coming to Detroit’s Eastern Market area.

Wasserman Projects is scheduled to open Sept. 25 in a renovated firehouse on the city’s east side.

Founded by Gary Wasserman, it is envisioned as a hub for artistic growth and development and a gathering place for Detroit’s artistic community.

The center will offer contemporary art exhibitions, concerts, performances and discussions.

An opening reception is scheduled for Sept. 25.
