SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a baby girl has died in an accidental bathtub drowning at an Eagle Mountain home.

Authorities say that 10-month-old Magnolia Anderson’s mother took her to the empty tub to clean her off after a messy diaper change shortly before noon Thursday.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the woman stepped away to attend to her other children. She returned 10 minutes later to find the tub full of water and the baby not breathing.

Police aren’t sure how the water got turned on. The mother called 911 and began to perform CPR. When medical crews arrived they also tried unsuccessfully to resituate her for 45 minutes.

Officers are investigating the death but say it appears to be an accident.

Eagle Mountain is about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City.
