PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man faces charges for stealing a tractor-trailer after fleeing an earlier collision on the Long Island Expressway.

The first crash happened near Holtsville shortly before midnight Wednesday. Police say the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Jonathan Moore of Westbury, ran from the scene.

They say an unidentified witness was struck by another vehicle as he chased Moore on foot. That man suffered a serious leg injury.

Moore then allegedly stole a tractor-trailer, crashed through a fence and drove to Route 112 in Patchogue. Police say he abandoned the tractor-trailer and then tried to steal keys from a car dealership.

He’s been arrested on charges including grand larceny, DWI and burglary.

It was not immediately known if he has an attorney who could comment on the case.
