ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in Ohio have identified remains found in a backyard fire pit as those of an 18-year-old woman reported missing in late July.

Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO’-luh) County Sheriff William Johnson said at a news conference Thursday that the bones found in the fire pit and a wooded area during a drug raid Aug. 20 are those of Alesha Bell of Warren. The home where the remains were found is in Roaming Shores, about 30 miles north of Warren in northeast Ohio.

A 40-year-old man who lived in the home was arrested during the raid. He’s been charged with multiple counts of having weapons as a convicted felon and tampering with evidence and is being held on a $700,000 bond.

Bell’s relatives have said Bell and the 40-year-old knew each other.
