PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Yavapai County sheriff’s deputy shot a Prescott-area man who fired shots into his neighborhood and in the presence of deputies trying to get him to surrender.

The Sheriff’s Office did not immediate release the identity of the man killed Wednesday. No other injuries were reported.

According to the office, deputies responded to calls about the man firing shots neighboring homes and about the man’s wife fearing for her safety.

The office says the wife snuck out when deputies arrived and that the man then resumed firing shots from the front yard.

According to the office, deputies tried to get the man to surrender but he ignored orders to drop his gun. It says a deputy shot the man when he walked toward deputies while shooting.

State police will investigate.
