NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) - Officials in Rockland County are urging residents to voluntarily conserve water.

County Executive Ed Day says Rockland County’s water resources are becoming stressed because of below-average rainfall in July and especially in August.

The health commissioner, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, says reducing water use now will help to ensure that the county doesn’t run into trouble in the fall and early winter.

The county has a list of water-saving tips on its website.
