Line: None.

Series Record: Clemson leads 11-3

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Clemson looks to start off with a win for the sixth time in seven years. FCS opponent Wofford looks to pull an Appalachian State-sized upset. If the Terriers come up short, though, Clemson faces App State a week later.

KEY MATCHUP

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson against the Wofford defense. The Tigers sophomore is looking to kick off a Heisman Trophy campaign with an impressive showing while the Terriers hope to slow him down. Watson threw for 1,466 yards and 14 touchdowns in limited action a year ago. Wofford allowed 329 yards a game last season, good for third in the Southern Conference.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

WOFFORD: Halfback Ray Smith is expected to be the player that makes Wofford’s option attack go this season. He had 601 yards and three touchdowns rushing last year.

CLEMSON: WR Mike Williams was a 1,000-yard pass catcher last season. He’s looking to join past Clemson receivers like DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins who have big junior seasons.
