MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A Missoula jury has found a 34-year-old woman not guilty of assaulting a police officer and a nurse in a busy emergency room on Christmas Day.

The Missoulian reports (https://bit.ly/1ObezZ5 ) that Mary Elizabeth Hansen was cleared Wednesday of the assault charges. She was also found not guilty of two disorderly conduct charges for the incident.

Prosecutors say Hansen became belligerent and demanded drugs after she said doctors took too long to see her in the emergency room. They say she became hostile while she was being treated. They say she whipped a nurse in the face with a towel and kicked an officer in the leg.

Hansen’s attorney says she was mentally ill during the incident and that she was desperate to medicate her condition.
