GLEN JEAN, W.Va. (AP) - The National Park Service has closed a portion of a hiking trail in southern West Virginia due to an unstable slope.

Park officials say parts of the Kaymoor Trail in the New River Gorge National River will remain closed indefinitely until repairs can be made.

Heavy rains have caused water to flow over drainage channels above the trail, causing erosion along the hillside. The park service says several trees and rocks have fallen on the trail, making it unsafe for hikers.

The trail is closed from the Wolf Creek Trailhead at Fayette Station Road to the Kaymoor Miners Trail. Signs will be posted at either end of the trail.

The Kaymoor Miners Trail will remain open from Kaymoor Top down to the stairs at a former coal mine.
