LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - Two inmates at the Lincoln County jail are facing charges after authorities say they attacked a cell mate as he slept.

A statement from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Kendrick Chazz Prather and Tyreke Deshawn Alexander were charged with one felony count each of assault inflicting serious bodily injury. Both men are 18 and are from Lincolnton.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Capt. Tim Johnson said 27-year-old Jeffrey Todd Crouse of Lincolnton was punched in the face repeatedly, knocking out some of his teeth. Crouse was treated for his injuries by the jail nursing staff.

Alexander is being held on a $90,000 bond, while Prather’s bond was set at $22,500. Jail records don’t indicate whether either man has an attorney.
