HOBART, Ind. (AP) - Seven people have been charged in the fatal July shootings of two Gary brothers that court records suggest were retaliation for a May shooting.

All face two counts of murder, murder in the perpetration of kidnapping and kidnapping in the killings of Arreon Lackey, 18, and Antonio Lackey, 16.

According to court records, surveillance video shows the suspects leading the brothers, who were barefoot, from a Merrillville motel and separating them against their will into different vehicles, The (Munster) Times reported (https://bit.ly/1KL0dOu ).

The brothers’ decomposed bodies were found July 17 in a wooded area of Hobart, 11 days after their mother reported them missing. Each had been shot in the head.

Those charged in the slayings include six Gary residents: 17-year-old Aarion J. Greenwood, who is being charged as an adult; 19-year-old David Johnson V; David Johnson IV, 37; David Johnson III, 62; Jeri L. Woods, 33; and Kiontay L. Cason, 21. Lake Station resident Michelle F. Hughes, 26, is also charged.

Hughes was being held Wednesday along with the Johnsons at the Lake County Jail. Cason, Woods and Greenwood, remained at large Wednesday afternoon, said Hobart police Lt. James Gonzales.

It was unclear when those in custody might appear in court for initial hearings. The Lake County prosecutor’s office did not immediately return telephone messages Wednesday seeking comment.

According to court documents, Hughes, who is Greenwood’s girlfriend, told detectives his family was angry about a missing gun belonging to his father, David Johnson IV.

But a probable cause affidavit said phone calls that David Johnson V made from jail before the killings to his father and Woods, his stepmother, point to a different motive. Those calls indicate Johnson’s family believed Arreon Lackey had led Greenwood astray and upset his relatives when Lackey and Greenwood allegedly shot a close family friend in May.

Court records state that during other jail phone calls, the family friend told David Johnson V that Arreon Lackey and Greenwood had told him they were all going to commit a robbery but they instead shot him.
