CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Police say a 15-year-old student who brought a BB gun to a suburban Philadelphia school, prompting an hour-long lockdown, will face a weapons charge.

Police were called to Chester High School on Tuesday morning after a student reported seeing another student put what looked like a handgun into his backpack.

The building was placed in lockdown during a room-to-room search. The gun was later determined to be a toy.

Police say that the student will be charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan says that although the student could be charged, he couldn’t be automatically detained because the charge was a misdemeanor.

Police officials say it’s not clear how the student was able to bring the weapon onto school grounds.
