MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Police say a 4-month-old girl was beaten to death by her father because she would not stop crying.

In court documents, Memphis police say Nathan Scarborough faces charges including first degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Police said officers went to a home in the Memphis suburb of Cordova on Sept. 22 and found the baby unresponsive. She died at a hospital.

Police said they interviewed Scarborough, the girl’s biological father, and he acknowledged he beat her when she would not stop crying. Police say Scarborough acknowledged that he did not administer aid to the baby and placed her in bed.

When the baby did not wake up, police said Scarborough began calling for help.

Court records do not show if he has a lawyer.
