SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - The deputy chief at the Sierra Vista Police Department will oversee the force temporarily.

Tom Alinen is retiring as chief Thursday after serving 37 years with the city. He’ll take on a new role with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in regional communication.

Deputy Chief Adam Thrasher will become the acting police chief while officials search for a permanent chief.

City Manager Chuck Potucek says he’s grateful for Alinen’s service to the police department and is confident Thrasher will do a good job.
