NEVADA, Mo. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in a deadly drunken driving crash in southwest Missouri.

The Joplin Globe (https://bit.ly/1GgS54j ) reports that 34-year-old Gary Drake Jr., of El Dorado Springs, was sentenced Tuesday for involuntary manslaughter in the September 2014 death of Whitney York.

She was a passenger in Drake’s car when it ran off a road east of Milo. It went airborne and broke into two pieces. York was ejected and hit.

The affidavit says Drake fled after a witness helped him get out of the driver’s seat by cutting his seat belt. He later was captured and told deputies that he had been drinking whiskey “most of the day.”

Drake previously pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.
