PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Doug Ducey is honoring a former University of Arizona student who helped discover evidence of flowing water on Mars.

Ducey on Wednesday issued a special statement congratulating Lujendra Ojha, the lead author of research findings published in a scientific journal and announced this week by NASA.

Ojha is now a doctoral candidate at Georgia Institute of Technology. He first noticed the streaks on Mars in 2010. Ojha and colleagues speculated at the time that they were seeing flowing water.

Ducey said the findings are a tribute to Ojha’s hard work and to dedicated faculty and staff of the University of Arizona.
