WASHINGTON (AP) - A consultant to former District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray’s troubled 2010 campaign has been charged with failing to pay his taxes.

Reuben Charles was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday. He faces two misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns in 2010 and 2011.

Charles is the eighth person charged as part of a lengthy investigation into Gray’s campaign. However, the charges against him only relate to not paying taxes on income he received while working to elect Gray.

Federal prosecutors have said in court that Gray was aware of an illegal “shadow campaign” that helped him win the 2010 election. Gray has denied all wrongdoing. He lost his bid for re-election in last year’s Democratic primary.

No attorney was listed for Charles in online court records.
