PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Heavy rain and wind across Rhode Island are causing problems on the roadways, and forecasters are warning they could cause minor coastal flooding, as well as flooding on city streets.

The National Weather Service says rain fell at a rate of one-half inch to an inch every hour Wednesday morning.

Multiple car crashes were reported, and flooding was reported in Cumberland.

The National Weather Service reports flooding could happen on the south coast of Rhode Island on shore roads and in basements.

A coastal flood advisory remains in effect until noon.
