HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Henderson County convenience store clerk is being credited with halting the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl.

Multiple media outlets report that a crying Cherokee County, South Carolina girl on Saturday afternoon told convenience store employee Seth McCall that she was being held against her will. McCall says a man began trying to pull the girl from the store, but McCall blocked the exit and called 911.

Police arrived and arrested 25-year-old Andres V. Fargus, charging him with felonious restraint.

Authorities say the girl had been with friends at Fargus’ Spartanburg house when Fargus, an acquaintance, took the girl. Police say Fargus told the girl that it is acceptable in Mexico for him to have a 14-year-old girlfriend.

The girl ran into the convenience store while Fargus was buying gasoline.
