SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (AP) - Swampscott school officials have canceled this weekend’s varsity football game after police said members of the team are being investigated for hazing.

Police say they saw dozens of young men while responding to a complaint that some youths were having a bonfire at the Swampscott High School practice field Friday night.

Students tell WCVB-TV that five players were doing jumping jacks and pushups naked. A senior at the school says the tradition has been going on for over a decade and no one was forced to do anything.

The school superintendent says Thursday’s freshman game was also called off. She says no adults were present at the time and that the district does not comment on ongoing investigations.
