TURNER, Maine (AP) - The company that now holds the lease for Maine’s biggest egg farm says it’s giving hourly workers a raise.

Hillendale, an egg producer headquartered in Ohio, signed a lease to operate the Turner egg farms on July 8. It announced Tuesday that it has officially taken over management of the farms.

The Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1P4oy4W ) reports that the family-owned company has had a lengthy relationship with egg magnate Jack DeCoster. DeCoster still owns the property in Turner, which was first leased to a Land O’Lakes subsidiary before Hillendale took over.

Hillandale now has 212 Maine employees. Spokeswoman Melanie Wilt says the company wants to raise that level to 250. The company says that in addition to providing raises, it will meet or exceed the past benefit packages for employees.
