LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities have captured a prison inmate a week after he walked away from a fire camp in Los Angeles County.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says in a statement Wednesday that 24-year-old Jesse Diaz was found at a house in Indio in his native Riverside County on Tuesday night. A tip from a friend led agents to the house.

On Sept. 22, Diaz disappeared late in the evening from the camp in Sylmar.

Patterson says Diaz was assigned to the camp during a four-year sentence after being convicted of evading police.
