DETROIT (AP) - The father of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is retiring as a federal judge.

Patrick Duggan’s last day on the bench is Wednesday. President Ronald Reagan nominated him in 1986, and he was quickly confirmed by the Senate.

Duggan was a Wayne County judge for 10 years before moving to U.S. District Court.

Miriam Siefer, chief federal defender in Detroit, says Duggan has been a “terrific judge.” She tells Detroit Legal News that prosecutors and defense lawyers left his court “knowing that you had a fair hearing.”
