SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (AP) - Officials say a 54-year-old man has died after an apparent accidental drowning off of King’s Beach in Swampscott.

Essex County District Attorney’s spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan says a caller reported a man in the water about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The caller told authorities the man went into the water to secure his boat, which had come off its mooring.

The Swampscott Harbormaster located the man, who was unconscious. He was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name is being withheld until his family is notified. Kimball-Monahan says he is a Swampscott resident.

An investigation is continuing.
