SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to stabbing two people in a grocery store parking lot.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1KQP3Wo ) that 31-year-old Kiet Thanh Ly on Tuesday pleaded guilty and mentally ill to two counts of attempted murder.

Ly was arrested in April 2012 after police say he went into a grocery store, purchased a knife, then came back outside and stabbed two men. He also attempted to stab several other people who were able to get away.

Police say a bystander who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon drew his gun, charged Ly and detained him until police arrived/

Ly is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 16.
