NEW YORK (AP) - A New York man accused of fatally stabbing another man four days before Christmas last year in Staten Island has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Staten Island Advance reports (https://bit.ly/1LOlmcJ ) that 27-year-old Sergio Carreto entered the plea Monday in Richmond County Supreme Court.

Authorities said the Port Richmond resident stabbed 26-year-old Durrell Finley to death on Dec. 21 near Harrison Avenue.

An NYPD spokesman says that Finley got into an altercation with a man related to Carreto. Authorities said Carreto stabbed Finley after the relative asked for help.

His lawyer says Carreto waived a self-defense claim in exchange for his plea and sentence.

He faces 13 years in prison when he’s sentenced Oct. 14. The Mexico native potentially faces deportation after serving his sentence.
