MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis coach Josh Pastner says a pair of his Tigers escaped without injuries from a fire that destroyed their apartment.

Pastner confirmed Wednesday in a text to The Associated Press that an electrical fire started the fire at the apartment of senior forward Trahson Burrell and sophomore guard Markel Crawford.

The Commercial Appeal first reported the fire early Wednesday morning at the players’ apartment near the Memphis campus. Pastner told the newspaper the smoke alarm woke them up and that the players were unable to extinguish the fire before escaping. The players lost much of their belongings.

The fire department was called at 3:04 a.m., and Memphis fire officials say an electrical issue in the kitchen started the blaze.
