ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Police in a Tucson suburb say a detective shot and wounded a 41-year-old man at a residence where officers went to conduct a search.

Oro Valley police Lt. Kara Riley said Wednesday that the search warrant was obtained after police found evidence of drug sales and trafficking in a vehicle that had been pulled over Tuesday.

She says officers arrived at the home later Tuesday and were confronted by the man armed with a gun, who fired at officers.

An Oro Valley detective fired back, striking the man.

Riley says the man was listed in critical condition late Tuesday at a Tucson hospital. His identity wasn’t released.

The detective was not injured.

Riley said the Pima County Sheriff’s Department will investigate the incident.
