HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Hoover police have arrested a local day care employee they say was filmed manhandling a toddler.

Multiple media outlets report that De’Erika Faye Stephens surrendered to authorities Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment. Stephens worked for Bright Horizons, a day care company that manages the child care center for Blue Cross Blue Shield employees in Hoover.

Police say online camera footage from Aug. 27 shows Stephens grabbing a 17-month-old child and then aggressively and forcefully shaking him. Footage from the center is streamed online so parents can monitor their children. The child was later examined by a physician and didn’t have any apparent injuries.

Stephens was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she has an attorney to comment on the charges.
