ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The Red River is once again open to river traffic in the vicinity of the O.K. Allen Bridge site, even though the work to remove pieces of the demolished bridge from the river is continuing.

The Town Talk reports (https://townta.lk/1KRfWbM) the main channel of the river in that area has been cleared to at least 20 feet deep, and it is open to barge and other river traffic.

The 79-year-old O.K. Allen Bridge’s superstructure was dropped into the river at 8 a.m. Saturday in a demolition process that used explosives to cut the bridge into 14 pieces. Cranes are being used to remove the large pieces from the river.
