PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it is targeting 16 counties with sobriety checkpoints in October.

The monthly checkpoints are conducted to discourage people from drinking and driving.

The counties scheduled for sobriety checkpoints in October are: Bennett, Brown, Butte, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Edmunds, Gregory, Hamlin, Lawrence, Lincoln, Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn and Spink.
