ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - St. George will not be hosting 2017’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship, with Chattanooga, Tennessee winning the bid instead.

The Spectrum reports (https://bit.ly/1L37JWs ) that St. George, Chattanooga, and Lake Placid, New York were the three finalists looking to hold the event that tourism experts say will be an economic boon.

Race officials announced Tuesday that the championship would be in Chattanooga.

St. George hosted the North American Championship version of the 70.3-mile triathlon on May 2, drawing about 2,500 athletes and some 10,000 visitors to the area.
