ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A Virginia Department of Transportation worker suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car as he tried to help another motorist on Interstate 395.

The Washington Post (https://wapo.st/1LPreCH ) reports that police say the incident happened Tuesday night when a vehicle lost control on the highway and hit a guardrail in Arlington County.

Spokesman for Arlington County Police Dustin Sternbeck says the VDOT worker, who was nearby, got out of his vehicle to help, but another car lost control on the rain-slick road and struck the worker.

The worker was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
