MOULTON, Ala. (AP) - The former director of a north Alabama animal shelter has pleaded not guilty to charges of animal abuse and neglect.

The Decatur Daily reports (https://bit.ly/1UuzIPW) that Bobbie Taylor, former director of the Animal Rescue Shelter of Lawrence County, entered the plea at a Thursday court hearing.

Moulton police say they started investigating reports of animal cruelty after a former worker showed photos and video to police and published footage online.

Moulton police Capt. Damon Morgan wrote in court records that Taylor housed several dogs and cats at her residence, and police say she neglected them. Authorities have said they found dead dogs at the property, but didn’t specify how many.

Taylor has said she did nothing wrong and many of the animals were ill before they arrived.
