NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Officials say that a fire that destroyed some newly installed playground equipment near New Castle has been ruled as arson.

Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Robert L. Fox says investigators are trying to determine who set the Wednesday evening fire, causing an estimated $60,000 worth of damage to the equipment.

The playground, accompanied by a baseball diamond and a basketball court, is part of a residential community in Simonds Gardens.

Simonds Gardens Civic Association Vice President Rob Butler tells the News Journal of Wilmington (https://delonline.us/1O1NiKK ) that the playground had been recently constructed.

Community leaders have not yet announced how soon the equipment will be replaced.
