LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - IOC President Thomas Bach has hired a German regional government official as his new chief of staff.

The International Olympic Committee says 43-year-old Marcus Hausen started work on Tuesday at the body’s headquarters in Lausanne.

For the past three years, Hausen ran the regional office of the senator for the economy, technology and research in Berlin.

His appointment is part of a shakeup of the administrative staff at IOC headquarters.

Jochen Farber, a German who had headed Bach’s executive office since 2013, is moving to a new role as head of the Swiss office of the new Olympic Channel. He will coordinate between the Lausanne and Madrid headquarters of the digital channel, which is still under development and is designed to promote Olympic sports in the years between the games.
