BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Yellowstone County jury has ruled against a pair of homeowners in their lawsuit over property damage caused by a slab of sandstone falling from the Rimrocks.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1hFQizM ) that the jury deliberated for less than two hours Thursday before awarding plaintiffs Jane Deschner and Jon Lodge zero dollars in compensation for the destruction of their home.

Lodge said the rock that destroyed their house was eroded by an unnatural waterway formed when the city of Billings expanded the airport in 1963 and moved Montana State Highway 3 closer to the edge of the Rimrocks. They were asking for about $400,000.

Attorneys for the state said Lodge’s argument ignores hundreds of thousands of years of natural weathering.
