COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio visual artist and professor will receive the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama will present the award Sept. 10 to Ohio State University professor Ann Hamilton and 11 other artists including actress Sally Field and author Stephen King.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the 59-year-old Hamilton is known for her multimedia works of art incorporating unlikely materials. She created a temple-like work of art titled “Myein” for the United States Pavilion at the 1999 Venice Biennale. It incorporated skylights, a glass and steel wall, a wood table, white clothes, powder, plaster and a computer among other materials.

The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities provide the awards.
