RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Rapid City Rush will offer a new alcohol-free family section when the Central Hockey League team takes the ice for a new season next month.

The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1JHaRp8 ) that the move follows a January incident in which some Rushmore Plaza Civic Center suite patrons were drinking, and beer was spilled on some Native American children below.

A man accused of using racial slurs was charged with disorderly conduct in that incident, but he was acquitted earlier this week. The judge ruled Tuesday that the city failed to prove that he used any racially charged words and he was just celebrating a goal.

The new family section on the arena’s west side has no suites or other seating above the section.
