ST. LOUIS (AP) - Saint Louis University is about to take on a new type of competition - chess.

The university says it is working with the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis to form SLU’s first-ever collegiate chess program, with plans to begin competing in the fall of 2016.

The university says the goal will be to attract top players from around the world. The team will be coached by chess grandmaster Alejandro Ramirez. SLU will offer competitive scholarships as part of the effort to bring in players.
