SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - There will be no Bay Area Rapid Transit service between Oakland and San Francisco over the Labor Day weekend.

BART officials say the Transbay Tube will be closed from Saturday to Monday for critical track maintenance, repairs and upgrades.

Officials say limited buses will run between the two cities, however, this is intended as a last option for those with no other means of transportation.

The bus bridge will add up to two hours to standard BART ride between San Francisco and Oakland.

The Transbay Tube services an estimated 80,000 riders traveling between San Francisco and Oakland during a typical weekend.

Without this service, motorists can expect more cars on the road and additional congestion throughout the Bay Area. Additional California Highway Patrol officers will be on the roads.
